The SNSF Professorship for the History of Architecture and Art,
Institute of Art History at the University of Zurich, invites
applications for
2 PhD positions in Art History (DoktorandIn).
Successful candidates will situate their doctoral research within the
interdisciplinary research project “Architectures of Display”
sponsored by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). This
project explores architecture’s image-generating capacity through
devices of framing and display. Possible topics for PhD theses may
address (but are not limited to) issues such as transparency vs.
opacity, the display window, or the history and theory of the
architectural exhibition.
Applicants should demonstrate wide ranging historical and theoretical
interests in historical and modern architecture and its relationship
to the arts and visual culture. Doctoral fellows dedicate half of
their time to their individual doctoral thesis and the other half to
the joint research project.
Employment conditions follow the guidelines as established by the
University of Zurich and the Swiss National Science Foundation. The
contract is renewed annually up three years total. A probation period
of six months applies. Residency within the city of Zurich or its
environs is expected.
Starting date: 1 September 2012, or according to prior agreement.
