International colloquium to mark the end of the special exhibition « Hugo van der Goes. Between Pain and Bliss ».
Hugo van der Goes (c. 1440-1482/83) was one of the most important European painters of the early modern period. His monumental, emotionally expressive, yet also intimate depictions are among the highlights of their respective collections. Yet unlike most other great artists of his era, no monographic exhibition has ever been dedicated to this Flemish master. The Berlin Gemäldegalerie is now bringing together the majority of his surviving works for the first time. The juxtaposition of his paintings and drawings will make this exhibition a unique and extraordinary visual experience.
We are welcoming proposals for 20-minute papers in English on any topic related to Hugo van der Goes and his oeuvre as well as his historical and art historical context. Proposals should be max. 300 words in length, multi-disciplinary approaches are very much welcomed.
Proposals and questions may be sent to:
Stephan Kemperdick, s.kemperdick@smb.spk-berlin.de
Erik Eising, h.eising@smb.spk-berlin.de
It will not be possible to participate virtually.
