Du 4 septembre au 16 octobre 2026, l’Académie de France à Rome ouvre le concours qui vise à sélectionner les seize pensionnaires qui seront accueillis pendant 12 mois à la Villa Médicis à Rome à partir de septembre 2027 pour une résidence de création, d’expérimentation ou de recherche.

Ce colloque propose d’examiner le rapport que les hommes et les femmes de l’époque moderne ont entretenus avec les objets et les lieux chrétiens manifestement hérités du passé (tardo-antiques ou médiévaux) en les considérant non comme des survivances passives, mais comme des éléments pleinement actifs des cultures religieuses.  Applications are now open for ten scholars under the age of 36 to apply for a scholarship to participate in the seminar Architectural Drawings in the Renaissance: Anonymous Artists, Copyists, Architects, organized by Guido Beltramini and Bianca de Divitiis, in collaboration with the GDSU.
This event inaugurates an annual seminar series on architectural drawing named after Howard Burns (1939–2025), a leading scholar in the field. The initiative stems from a collaboration between the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut (KHI) and the Centro Internazionale di Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio (CISAAP) and will be held annually around June 10, the date of Burns’ birth.

Since the late nineteenth century, and particularly over the past three decades, a substantial body of scholarship has emerged on medieval and Renaissance sculpture. Yet these works remain remarkably difficult to study. The challenges extend beyond their historical dispersal across rural parish churches and other remote sites. Even when sculptures are housed in museums, obstacles persist: their physical immobility, the constraints of viewing them without full three-dimensional access, and the complex interplay of materials and techniques that define their multimedia character. For centuries, textiles clothed bodies and books, veiled relics, marked liturgical and political boundaries, and insulated and adorned walls. Their portability and preciousness made them ideal agents of exchange. They carried forms, materials, and techniques across vast regions and cultures. It is through textiles, perhaps more than any other artistic medium, that the global interconnectedness of this historical period comes into view. Prof. Dr. Michele Bacci, Université Fribourg, will hold the Panofsky Professorship at the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte Munich in 2026. In connection with this professorship the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte seeks applications for a Panofsky Fellowship.
The fellowship is intended for doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars (who have graduated within the last five years) who are working on a project related to the topic “Byzantine-Latin Artistic Interactions in the Late Medieval and Early Modern Periods”.
