Research Assistant (m/f/d)

Although scholars in the visual arts have extensively explored the iconography of motherhood, far less attention has been paid to how motherhood has impacted categories of authorship, definitions of artistic making, and judgements of aesthetic value. We invite doctoral projects that take up this challenge, however interpreted. We are especially interested in risk-taking projects, which challenge conventional wisdom and identify new avenues of analysis. Projects may range from the early modern period to contemporary art, take up any medium, and address any geographic area. They must, however, be clearly defined and able to be realized within three years. Applicants coming from the practice of art with demonstrated capacity for scholarly research are also welcome to apply.
In-person interviews will take place in Lüneburg the week of July 8 or 15, 2024.
