 Applications are now open for ten scholars under the age of 36 to apply for a scholarship to participate in the seminar Architectural Drawings in the Renaissance: Anonymous Artists, Copyists, Architects, organized by Guido Beltramini and Bianca de Divitiis, in collaboration with the GDSU.
This event inaugurates an annual seminar series on architectural drawing named after Howard Burns (1939–2025), a leading scholar in the field. The initiative stems from a collaboration between the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut (KHI) and the Centro Internazionale di Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio (CISAAP) and will be held annually around June 10, the date of Burns’ birth.

Since 2023, an interdisciplinary research team, funded by the DFG and the Ernst von Siemens Art Foundation, has been systematically investigating and cataloguing drawings and prints from the Cranach workshop. The results will be published soon online in the Cranach Digital Archive.

 Master Drawings is NOW accepting submissions for the 9th Annual Ricciardi Prize of $5,000!
The award is given for the best new and unpublished article on a drawing topic (of any period) by a scholar under the age of 40. The winning submission will be published in a 2027 issue of Master Drawings. In addition to the prize money the winner and runner up are invited as our guests to present their respective research at the Master Drawings annual symposium in New York. The journal provides airfare and three nights of accommodation.

The History of Drawings. Conservation and Its Ethics
Interdisciplinary online symposium hosted by the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Rijksmuseum.
Drawings—like all works of art—are prone to physical and chemical changes caused by environmental factors, handling, display, and the natural aging of their materials. Paper and parchment may warp, tear, and discolor; ink and chalk are subject to abrasion, fading, and smudging. In response, conservators—as well as restorers and collectors before them—have developed treatments to remediate, stabilize, and improve the appearance of affected drawings. Examining the history of these practices, in turn, invites discussion on critical issues.

The Wolfgang Ratjen Award is an annual award for early career research in the field of graphic arts. The prize, funded by the Foundation Wolfgang Ratjen, is curated and presented by CONIVNCTA FLORESCIT Friends of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte.
The purpose of this award, which honours the memory of the collector Wolfgang Ratjen (1943-1997), is to encourage younger scholars to address neglected topics and to bring the results of their work to the attention of a broader public.
Consideration will be given to a Ph.D. dissertation, M.A. thesis, or publication, completed within the last three years and dealing with art historical questions which involve drawings or prints in Western art.  The Burlington Magazine’s Travel Bursaries to study collections of European drawings.
We are delighted to announce a new initiative: The Burlington Magazine Travel Bursaries, generously funded by the Rick Mather David Scrase Foundation.
These bursaries are designed to support emerging art historians undertaking research on old master drawings. The awards will fund travel to major collections worldwide to study works of Western art on paper from the Renaissance to 1900.
Typical awards will range from £2,000–£2,500 for travel within Europe and £3,000–£3,500 for intercontinental travel. Applications are welcomed from postgraduate and curatorial researchers worldwide.

Le Prix d’aide à la publication Bella Maniera
Grâce à la dotation d’un mécène, l’association Bella Maniera propose, chaque année pendant trois ans, une aide à la publication destinée aux historiennes et historiens de l’art pour des travaux sur le dessin ancien. Le prix, d’un montant de 3 000 €, prévoit d’accompagner la réalisation d’une publication : article, catalogue d’exposition, livre monographique ou thématique sur le dessin ancien et du XIXe en Europe.

The Morgan Drawing Institute will award one nine-month Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to a scholar in the first decade of their career following the completion of the Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree.
