The Division of Arts and Humanities at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications for an open rank (tenure-track / tenured) faculty position in Early Modern European Art History. Applicants must have expertise in early modern European art and its entanglements with the diverse histories of empire, colonialism, and cultural exchange.
The Program seeks scholars who can demonstrate a commitment to methodological reflection and innovation that is open to cross-disciplinary and global art historical perspectives. The successful candidate will help develop collaborations with other programs in the Arts & Humanities Division as well as with other divisions at NYUAD. Responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising in the Program, teaching in the Core Curriculum, research, and service to the University.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Art History, an established or emerging internationally recognized publication record. They will have corresponding teaching experience and be expected to mentor and supervise BA, MA, MFA, and PhD students.

Art & Art History at NYUAD is undertaking an exciting expansion that seeks to develop a global curriculum, and at the same time to consolidate its commitment to bringing Art History, arts practice, and design together in one program. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this dynamic development.
NYUAD Art & Art History faculty are especially active in fostering collaborations with local and regional artists and art institutions, including the NYUAD Art Gallery, and academic organizations and museums. Two of its faculty have founded Al Mawrid, the first Centre for the Study of Arab Art, which also houses Akkasah, a major archive of vernacular and documentary photography from the region. NYUAD’s campus is situated on Saadiyat Island’s cultural district, home to an established and growing array of major arts institutions including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and the Shaykh Zayed National Museum, in addition to innovative gallery spaces such as Warehouse 421 and Manarat al Saadiyat. The burgeoning art landscapes Dubai and Sharjah are also nearby.
