The Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut (KHI) invites applications for the post of research assistant at the pre-doctoral level (Wissenschaftliche Assistentin / Wissenschaftlicher Assistent) in the department of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Wolf, starting on October 1, 2012 for one to three years.
The position is intended for young scholars to pursue research for their dissertation as well as to collaborate in projects of KHI, a Max-Planck-Institute specialized in the history and theory of Italian and mediterranean art in its global connections, from Late Antiquity to the present time.
Half of the fellow’s time will be committed to directed research in one or more of the focuses of Professor Wolf’s department (for a list, see : http://www.khi.fi.it/en/forschung/index.html#wolf ). As the post requires performing tasks in a quick timeframe, and in areas that may not be related to the applicant’s specialization, the post is suitable for an independent, creative-thinking scholar with research experience.
The position is awarded on a competitive basis. Applicants will be evaluated based on their application and, especially, on the excellence of their dissertation proposal, which does not necessarily need to fall within the main research scopes of the department.
Requirements :
Applicants must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program and demonstrate proficiency in Italian and/or German as well as a good command of English. The research assistant is expected to reside in Florence and participate fully in the activities of the KHI. The position is awarded without regard of nationality.
The application (in English, Italian, German or French) must include :
– a motivational cover letter, which should include the names and contact details of two referees;
– a dissertation proposal (max 500 words);
– a curriculum vitae.
Applicants are required to merge all the documents in one single pdf file and to submit it via e-mail to dirwolf@khi.fi.it by August 15, 2012.
Please address inquiries to the same address.
