IV International Congress: Picasso and History
Call for Papers
The Museo Picasso Málaga will host the IV International Congress on Pablo Picasso on the 9th, 10th, 11th of October 2018, in the city of Málaga. Thanks to the initiative of the Musée national Picasso-Paris, since 2015 the congress has offered an annual forum where recent academic studies on Picasso’s work, stature and sociocultural context are presented and debated.
This year’s congress turns to the topic of “Picasso and History” in order to explore new ways of
understanding the artist’s work. We welcome proposals for 20-minute presentations addressing the creation and reception of Picasso´s work from a broad range of historical perspectives.
Topic examples include, but are not limited, to the following:
-How do economic, social, and political factors enter into Picasso’s art?
-What social and political meanings do critics, collectors, scholars and curators attribute to his work?
-How do other artists in other countries and regions make use of Picasso´s innovation in order to créate new art addressing social and political issue?
Application Guidelines:
1. Abstracts must be no longer than 500 words
2. Languages: English, French or Spanish
3. Deadline for abstract submissions: APRIL 30, 2018
4. Please, specify the title of your talk, the historical and geographical coordinates of your topic, contact information and institutional affiliation (if any).
