Appels à candidatures pour le projet d’enseignement et de recherches sur l’histoire de l’art américain aux 19e et 20e, pour les universités de Nanterre, de Tours et l’ENS, avec le soutien de l’INHA

Two eight-week Terra Visiting Professorships in American Art are available through the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art for the academic years 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 to a senior academic whose work examines American art and visual culture with a secondary specialization in transcultural context/transatlantic exchanges. The candidate is not required to hold a teaching position in American art history as long as American art, or art and visual culture produced in the United States, constitutes a substantial part of the candidate’s area of specialization and courses taught. The chronological focus of research and teaching can encompass, but is not limited to, 19th and 20th century American art and visual culture. The visiting professorships are hosted by the Ecole Normale Supérieure, the Université de Paris Ouest-Nanterre La Défense, and the Université François-Rabelais de Tours with a stipend of $25,000 and travel funds up to $5,000. During the academic year 2011-2012, the visiting professor will teach at Université de Paris Ouest-Nanterre. During the academic year 2012-2013, courses will take place at the Ecole Normale Supérieure. Each visiting professor will present a course and a public lecture, work in close collaboration with the academic community, and mentor graduate students. The course will consist of three lectures of two hours each. The timing of lectures and meetings with students over the five weeks of stay will be at the discretion of the professor. In addition to these three lectures, the visiting professor will give a public lecture on a subject not necessarily linked to his or her teaching. The conference will be held at INHA. The visiting professor may be invited to repeat the conference at the Université François Rabelais in Tours. The candidate should be a versatile and dedicated professor who will have a strong presence in the department and on campus. This program should enable young students to engage in research on American art and transatlantic cultural exchanges. The participating institutions have a long-standing interdisciplinary tradition and the ideal colleague will have the opportunity to contribute actively to the work of the « DHTA » (Département d’Histoire et Théorie des Arts), Ecole Normale Supérieure and of the Département d’Histoire de l’Art et d’Archéologie, Université de Paris Ouest-Nanterre La Défense, and their Research Centers (such as the « HAR », (Centre de Recherches en Histoire de l’Art et des Représentations), in Paris Ouest), and the « INTRU » (INteractions, Transferts, RUptures), Université François-Rabelais de Tours. An ability to teach in English or French at all levels is required.
