Un contrat post-doctoral de 3 ans
At the Seminar for Art History and Film Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, we offer a Postdoctoral Researcher Position (m/f/d), starting 1 January 2021.

The position is assigned to the Research Unit « European Romanticism », where a research group funded by the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2020 starts working on the topic « European Romanticism or Romantics in Europe? Questioning the unity of Romanticism in the visual arts and the aesthetics of the early 19th century ». The research group will use case studies in the field of the visual arts from different countries and regions to explore the European dimension of Romanticism. The doctoral projects, which will be worked on within the framework of the advertised positions, are intended to focus on case studies that contribute to the research group by dealing with questions concerning Romanticism in France, England, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia or Eastern Europe.

Your responsibilities:
– One focus will be on independent work on a larger research project on art history, art theory or aesthetics in the context of European Romanticism (postdoc project or habilitation project).
– Another task is the coordination of the Research Centre « European Romanticism » (events, publications, financial planning, internal organisation, scientific communication, etc.)

Requirements:
– You are expected to have a university degree and a particularly qualified doctorate in art history (or in a related discipline with a high affinity to questions of aesthetics, art or image theory).
– It is also expected that one of the fields of research is or will be devoted to art, art theory or aesthetics of the Romantic period or the period around 1800.
– A deepened interest in theoretical issues would be advantageous.

The position is based on a fixed-term contract (3 years), provided that the maximum permissible duration of a fixed-term employment is not exceeded. This position is a full-time position (40 hours per week).

Deux bourses doctorales

Both positions are assigned to the Research Unit « European Romanticism », where a research group funded by the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2020 starts working on the topic « European Romanticism or Romantics in Europe? – The focus will be on independent research on the art history, art theory or aesthetics of European Romanticism within the framework of a doctoral project, the implementation and supervision of which is to take place at the Friedrich Schiller University.
– Active participation in activities of the Research Unit « European Romanticism » is expected.

Requirements:
– You are expected to have a university degree in art history (or in a related discipline with a high affinity to questions of aesthetics, art or image theory) which entitles you to pursue a doctorate.
– The planned dissertation project should be in line with the research profile of the Research Unit « European Romanticism » and be dedicated to art, art theory or aesthetics of the Romantic period or the period around 1800.
