Post Doc au Kunsthistorisches Institut à Florence

Postdoctoral Research Collaborator (full time),

Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut, June 01, 2020
Application deadline: Mar 22, 2020

The Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut invites applications for the full-time postdoctoral research collaborator (Wissenschaftliche Assistenz) in the department of Gerhard Wolf, starting in June 2020 or thereafter for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal.

The research collaborator assumes a high degree of responsibility within the department, working closely with the director and contributing to the research activities of the department and the institute, as well as pursing her/his own research. We especially seek scholars whose research touches upon the department’s theme: constellations of image, object, site, in a Mediterranean and wider global perspective. This might include, but is not limited to, transcultural interactions over short and long distances, shared or contested cultural heritage and the history of conservation, sacred landscapes and materialities, considering also environmental approaches and ecological concerns.

The position provides exciting opportunities to develop individual and collaborative research in creative formats, running internal fellows’ research seminars, serving as a mentor to pre-doctoral fellows and conceiving and organizing departmental and institute study trips. The position requires a combination of innovative thinking, intellectual rigour, flexibility, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to work as part of a team.

We welcome applications from art historians, as well as those working in related disciplines. Applicants must hold a doctorate/PhD degree and demonstrate proficiency in at least two foreign languages. The research collaborator is expected to reside in Florence. The position is awarded without regard to nationality.

Salary and benefits will be determined according to German or Italian contract conditions.

The applications, which can be submitted in either English, German, or Italian, should include:

1. a cover letter
2. a proposal (maximum 1,000 words) for a postdoctoral (or Habilitation) research project
3. a detailed curriculum vitae
4. a short summary (maximum 1,000 words) of the doctorate/PhD dissertation
5. a list of publications (if available)
6. the names of three referees

The Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds.

Applicants are required to merge all the documents into one single PDF file and to submit it via e-mail to dirwolf@khi.fi.it by 22 March 2020.
