Poste : Assistant prof., Digital Building Research and Archeological Studies, Darmstad,

At the Department of Architecture at Technische Universität Darmstadt the position of an
Assistant Professorship (W2, Tenure-Track) – ”Digital Building Research and Archeological Studies“ (Code. No. 501)
is to be filled: the professorship fits the focus with an emphasis in teaching and research on digital building research (Bauforschung). The position is initially limited to six years.

The professorship with a decidedly archeology science profile has two main strands: on the one hand, the transmission and development of applied technological-digital methods in building research and the testing and locating of theoretical concepts for innovative concepts for digital research approaches framed through methods in the humanities on the other. That way applied and theoretical concepts are interlaced in teaching and research. The professorship will be part of the institute for “historical foundations” in the department of architecture.

The prerequisite is a degree in a relevant field (archeology, architecture, art history) with proven qualification in digital methods of building research and/or historic preservation, and an excellent doctorate. Outstanding knowledge in research and teaching is expected as well as proven experience in research project management and implementation.

The position holder will participate appropriately in the teaching duties of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the Department of Architecture as well as interdepartmental programs. This requires not only scientific qualifications but also special didactic skills. Very good English and – at the latest by the mid-term review – very good German language skills are expected. In addition, the ability and willingness to cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis and to participate in university selfadministration is required.

The assistant professorship is designated as a qualification professorship according to § 70 HessHG (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz); accordingly, the maximum period of scientific activities during and after the doctorate generally shall not exceed nine years or the scientific activity after the doctorate shall not exceed four years. Furthermore, applicants should have completed their doctorate at a university other than TU Darmstadt or have worked scientifically outside TU Darmstadt for at least two years after completing their doctorate.

The position is initially limited to six years. The position comes with the option of a tenured professorship after a successfully completed tenure process. The tenure process, which can be initiated one and a half years before the end of the assistant professorship, evaluates the corresponding achievements in research and teaching. After a successful probationary phase, the immediate transition to a tenured professorship is granted. For further information, please see the tenure guidelines of Technische Universität Darmstadt. Remuneration follows the German W-Besoldung at level W2 Hessisches Besoldungsgesetz. A comparable employment relationship is possible.

Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female faculty members and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Technische Universität Darmstadt is certified as a family-friendly university and offers a dual career program.

Applications should be sent with the usual documents (academic curriculum vitae, list of publications, overview of previous teaching activities and description of scientific activities, list of projects), as well as a maximum five-page exposé on the structure of the future position in the field of research and teaching quoting the identification number, to the Dean of the Department of Architecture, El-Lissitzky-Strasse 1, D-64287 Darmstadt, preferably in electronic form (a single PDF file) to the e-mail: dekanat@architektur.tu-darmstadt.de.
