Offer Description
Aims and tasks:
• Research into the history and work of the painter António de Holanda, with particular emphasis on the « Genealogy of the Counts of Feira » kept in the National Archive of Torre do Tombo, Portugal;
• Study of the iconography of the « Genealogy of the Counts of Feira », with a particular focus on the portrait of aulic and heraldry;
• Presenting the results of the research at regular meetings with the supervisors and other members of the project team;
• Writing the master’s project and its public defence.
Duration, scope, and funding: This research grant will have the length of 9 months, non-renewable, scheduled to start in January 2024.
The research grant amount is €930,98 per month (according to the table of scholarship values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. in the country) (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf). To this value is added the voluntary social insurance corresponding to the first level, in case the candidate opts for its attribution, as well as the personal accident insurance.
Eligibility criteria:
The research grant is intended for a graduate in Art History or History, with a final average of no less than 15/20, who is attending the curricular part of the Master’s Degree in Art History or History, preferably in the first half of the 16th century.
Candidates must meet the eligibility conditions provided in the Article 6º of the FCT I.P Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships (2019).
Preferred requirements:
– Research experience in Art History (in the 15th and 16th centuries);
– Knowledge of Art History, Iconography and Heraldry;
– Curricular internship in a cultural institution.
Important notice regarding the Application Admission Requirements mentioned above:
•In the case of academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and in order to guarantee the application of the principle of equal treatment to candidates who hold foreign and national academic degrees, it is mandatory to recognize these degrees and convert the respective final classification to the Portuguese rating scale. The recognition of foreign academic degrees and diplomas as well as the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese classification scale can be required in any public higher education institution, or in the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES). •The research grant is always dependent on the presentation of proof of the required academic qualifications.

3. Motivation letter;
4. A sworn statement that the candidate will not exceed with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, an accumulated period of one year in this type of grant, consecutive or interpolated, and has not already been the beneficiary of any other grant directly or indirectly funded by FCT.
Selection Methods:
The selection of candidates will be made through curricular evaluation, in which will be weighed:
• Curriculum vitae (45%) – The final grade of the degree, participation in scientific events and/or experience of research work in Art History / History will be taken into account;
• Interview (35%) – The purpose of the interview is to develop a dialogue in which the candidate can present a summary of their personal and academic background in order to highlight the aspects they consider most relevant to justifying their application to this tender. The Interview aims to assess the Attitude and Motivation shown to develop the proposed project work (Criterion 1), and the Knowledge and training acquired (Criterion 2).
• Motivation letter (20%) – Special attention will be paid to the candidate’s explanation of the reasons for their application and how the project work fits in with the development objectives of their professional / academic career.
The final classification will be expressed on a scale of 0-100. Candidates who do not obtain a final classification of 70 points or more will not be admitted.

Form of advertising / notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be publicized, through a list ordered by the final grade obtained by the candidates, posted on the IHA website, and the successful candidates will be notified through e-mail.
