Research Travel Grants in Europe for Art Historians – Year 2023

The Institut national d’histoire de l’art offers financial support to established art historians who intend to conduct research in Europe in 2023. This support takes the form of expense reimbursements, up to 800 euros for trips in 2023.

Requirements

Applicants must have completed a PhD in art history for at least 3 years (thesis defended before 4 January 2020) or be actively engaged in art history research at a professional level (lecturers, curators), regardless of nationality.

Applications will be evaluated according to the quality of the presentation of the research topic, the justification for a trip to France or another or several countries of the European Union and finally the degree of preparation for this trip (identification of resources or sources to be consulted and a correctly assessed budget).

Only applicants residing in France during the academic year 2022-2023 can apply for a stay in one or more countries of the European Union. Applicants residing outside France during the academic year may only apply for a stay in France.

Application

The application package must include:

– a cover letter addressed to the Directrice des études et de la recherche de l’INHA. This letter will detail the research project, the reasons for the research trip (specifying which institutions and collections/archives will be consulted), the location, the duration and the period of stay in the country;
– a curriculum vitae;
– a provisional budget.

For applicants residing in France and wishing to travel to one or more European Union coutries : proof of residence for the academic year 2022-2023 (invoice less than 3 months old, or a statement of honour)

Only applications submitted online will be considered.
