The Burlington Magazine’s Prize for Writing on Sculpture

We are delighted to announce the launch of The Burlington Magazine Prize for Writing on Sculpture, a new annual award celebrating innovative writing on sculpture from the Renaissance to 1900.

Supported by Stuart Lochhead Sculpture, the prize aims to encourage and publish outstanding object-based scholarship. The winning author will receive £2,500, publication of their article in The Burlington Magazine’s annual Sculpture issue, and a one-year subscription to the Magazine.

We welcome previously unpublished submissions of 1,000–1,500 words from early career scholars worldwide, with a preference for object-focused research.
Preference will be given to object-related scholarship.
Submissions should be in English and should include the candidate’s CV, all as a single PDF.

Please submit your application to: prize@burlington.org.uk

Deadline for applications: Monday 4 May 2026
