Seeking Nuance: Articulating Digital and Non-digital Approaches to Art History.
Artl@s Conversation Series in Digital Art History

Following the success of our 2023-2024 seminar « Narrowing the Divide, » we are delighted to announce the call for proposals for the 2024-2025 Artl@s Conversation Series in Digital Art History, themed « Seeking Nuance: Articulating Digital and Non-digital Approaches to Art History. » This online seminar aims to delve into the interplay between digital and analog practices in art historical research, regardless of the scale of the project, be it individual or collective.

We invite scholars to showcase how their projects navigate the complexities of digital and analog methodologies and practices. These may encompass considerations such as balancing quantity and quality, supplementing computational evidence, managing collaborative skills, ensuring project diffusion and sustainability, and preserving data. Presentations on infrastructures, methodologies, and tools that advance the frontier of digital research are also welcome.

Furthermore, contributors are urged to reflect on how they disseminate their findings within traditional academic settings and position themselves within the evolving landscape of art historical research.

With this new conversation series, we aim to facilitate a nuanced discussion that embraces the opportunities and challenges at the intersection of digital and analog practices. So, join us as we navigate the complexities of contemporary research practices and explore their implications for the present and future of the discipline.

Deadline for abstract submissions: July 1, 2024.

Tentative Schedule: 20 September 2024, 11 October 2024, 22 November 2024, 14 December 2024, 7 February 2025, 14 March 2025, 11 April 2025, 16 May 2025, from 2:15-4:00 PM Geneva-Paris-Berlin time (8:15-10:00 AM New York time)

Please submit your proposals in PDF format titled as follows: LASTNAME_proposal.pdf, containing a proposed title, an abstract of up to 300 words, and a 200-word bio-bibliography.
