Appel à candidature : « Morgan Drawing Institute Fellowships, Morgan Library & Museum, New York»

The Morgan Drawing Institute will award a small number of fellowships for the 2013-14 academic year. Applications are invited for consideration for Post-Doctoral and Pre-Doctoral Fellowships and for the Morgan-Menil Fellowship (specializing in moderna nd contemporary drawings). Fellowships are intended to support independent research projects on subjects relating to some aspect of the history, theory, collecting, function, or interpretation of old master and/or modern drawings. While research projects may focus in some way on works in the Morgan’s collection, this is not a prerequisite for consideration or support.

Pre-Doctoral Fellowships are awarded to advanced-level graduate students who have completed all course work and exams and are currently engaged in carrying out research leading to the completion of a doctoral dissertation in the history of art, some component of which pertains to the history, theory, collecting, function, or interpretation of old master and/or modern drawings. With rare exceptions, applicants who are in the early stages of dissertation research will not be considered.

Stipend: $20,000 for six months, plus a travel allowance intended to support or subsidize a short research trip and a one-time reimbursement for round-trip travel expenses associated with the beginning and end of the fellowship. The possibility of a shorter-term appointment exists, with the stipend prorated accordingly.

Post-Doctoral Fellowships are awarded to scholars and curators at all stages of their careers. Applicants must demonstrate an established record of publications and professional experience and achievement and hold a Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree or record of accomplishment in the history of art or related field at the time the application is submitted.

Stipend: $25,000 for six months, plus a travel allowance intended to support or subsidize a short research trip and a one-time reimbursement for round-trip travel expenses associated with the beginning and end of the fellowship. The possibility of a shorter-term appointment exists, with the stipend prorated accordingly.

Fellowship Requirements
Fellows are expected to spend the majority of their fellowship period in residence at the Morgan Library & Museum, although visits to local collections and research at other local libraries are encouraged. A brief research trip relevant to the project is permissible. Participation in biweekly lunches or teas is required, and attendance at occasional events organized by the Drawing Institute throughout the year—such as private visits to exhibitions, scholars’ days, seminars, lectures, and an annual symposium-is strongly encouraged during the period of residency. Upon completion of the fellowship, each fellow is required to make a final presentation to other members of the Drawing Institute and invited colleagues and to submit to a brief written report (one to three pages) that will be published on the Morgan’s website.

Other Information
Fellows will have access to the Morgan’s rich and varied collections of drawings, albums, sketchbooks, and prints; autograph letters; literary and musical manuscripts; illustrated books and bindings; illuminated manuscripts; and archival material; as well as full use of the Library’s extensive research resources and facilities, including access to online databases from which material can be downloaded. No additional funds for purchasing books, images, reproduction rights, or other special research materials are available.

Health insurance is not provided by the Morgan. Fellows may wish to consider short term individual health insurance options available through www.gatewayplan.com.

Fellows are expected to make their own travel and housing arrangements. No housing is provided.

For foreign applicants, non-financial assistance with procuring a visa is provided.
Fellowships are non-renewable.
