The Department of Art History, Curating and Visual Studies at the University of Birmingham seek to appoint a Lecturer in History of Art with research and teaching expertise in Post-1945 to Contemporary Art. Some expertise in the history, theory and practice of curating art may also be desirable, as is the capacity to pursue research and teaching collaborations with non-HEIs including galleries and museums.
The post holder will hold a PhD in a relevant field or be very close to the submission and examination of a doctoral thesis. They will be able to evidence a developing publication profile in the field and clear and realisable objectives for significant research outputs of outstanding quality and impact. The post holder will have experience of teaching students on university programmes and be able to devise and deliver general and specialised modules and supervision to History of Art students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. They will be able to demonstrate competence in administration and management commensurate with a standard lectureship.
The post-holder’s expertise will complement and enhance the department’s existing, internationally-recognised, research and teaching expertise in the history, historiography, curation and theory of European and North American art, architecture, design and visual culture from 1400 to the contemporary.
