The New-York Historical Society, founded in 1804, holds a unique collection of books, manuscripts, graphic materials, decorative objects, and works of art. New-York Historical’s Patricia D. Klingenstein Library comprises more than 350,000 books, three million manuscripts, and distinctive collections of maps, photographs, prints, and ephemera documenting the history of America from the perspective of New York. Fellows will be encouraged to explore the collections and to take advantage of the full diversity offered by New-York Historical’s resources. Bernard and Irene Schwartz Fellowships
Deadline: January 3, 2013
Offered jointly with Eugene Lang College The New School for Liberal Arts, two Bernard and Irene Schwartz Fellowships are open to scholars who will have completed their Ph.D. before the end of the 2012-2013 academic year. Fellows will teach one course each semester at The New School and will also carry on research projects in residence at the New-York Historical Society. These Fellowships carry a stipend of $60,000, plus benefits.

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowships
Deadline: January 3, 2013
Two Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Fellowships will be awarded to candidates who have held the Ph.D. for three to five years. Research projects may include conversion of dissertations into publishable manuscripts or the initiation of new research, based on the resources of the New-York Historical Society. The nine-month residency will carry a stipend of $60,000, plus benefits.

Patricia and John Klingenstein Short-Term Fellowships
Deadline: January 3, 2012
Two Patricia and John Klingenstein Fellowships will be awarded to scholars at any academic level working in the library collections of the New-York Historical Society. Research is to be conducted for two to four weeks for a stipend of between $1,500-2,000.
