ART INFORMEL – CURRENT AND FUTURERE SEARCH
International Conference 30 September to 2 October 2020.
Research Center for Art Informel, Department of Art History, University of Bonn.
In June 2019, a new research center for Art Informel was established at the Department of Art History of the University of Bonn. Led by Prof. Dr. Christoph Zuschlag, the center aims to promote research into German and European Art Informel in its global context and from a transnational perspective. Following the graduate symposium planned for the coming spring, this international conference will take place during the autumn of 2020.
Staged over three days, the central objective of the conference is to offer a platform to exchange ideas, to present and discuss research projects, and for the analysis of current findings. We therefore invite proposals from established academics, from post-docs and from PhD students working across the facets of Art Informel. The conference aims to provide a broader perspective on current research positions. We therefore welcome contributions exploring, for example: different methodological approaches to Art Informel; the work of individual artists or groups of artists; history of the reception of Art Informel; picture theory; Art Informel on the market, in private or museum collections; transnational comparisons; and questions of social or cultural policy. Potential topics are thus not limited to the field of art history – we welcome proposals from researchers working in the fields of historical,
philosophical, sociological or cultural studies, for example.
We invite proposals for papers not exceeding 30 minutes in length, to be presented in German or English. To submit a proposal, please send an abstract (pdf) in German or English to: Anne-Kathrin Hinz <ahinz@uni-bonn.de>. The deadline for submission is 27 January 2020.
Your abstract should include:
 title of presentation
 description of planned presentation (max. 500 words)
 where appropriate, selected relevant literature
 a short CV
 where appropriate, your institution
 e-mail address
A publication with essays based on the conference papers is planned (to appear as part of the publications series of the Research Center for Art Informel). It is hoped to be able to cover travel and accommodation costs in full or in part (based on the
funds raised).
