Proposals are being accepted for the Historians of Netherlandish Art Sponsored Session at the College Art Association Annual Conference (Los Angeles, Feb. 21–24, 2018):

« All in the Family: Northern European Artistic Dynasties, ca. 1350–1750 »

In early modern northern Europe, many artists followed fathers, uncles, brothers, sisters, and spouses into the family business of art-making. From the Netherlandish brothers Herman, Pol, and Jean de Limbourg, to the Vischer family of sculptors in Nuremberg, to the Teniers dynasty of Flemish painters, artists all over the north learned from and collaborated with family members over the course of their careers. For a young artist, family . . .

. . → En lire plus

Appel à communication : « Michel-Ange et les Pays du Nord / Michelangelo and the North: Impact and Influence » (Bruges, 18-20 août 2016)

Michel-Ange, Madone de Bruges, 1501-1504, Bruges, église Notre Dame According to Holanda in his Dialogues, Michelangelo claimed that Northern, and specifically Flemish art, « will please the devout better than any painting in Italy…It will appeal to women, especially to the very old and the very young, and also to monks and nuns and to certain noblemen who have no sense of true harmony.” Perhaps as a consequence, few artists are more closely associated with Italy than Michelangelo. This session seeks to question this notion, calling for papers to broaden the conversation by considering the influence, interactions, and legacy of Michelangelo and his art on Northern Europe during the Early Modern period.

Appel à communication : « Images of the courtier in Northern European art, 1500-1700 » (Berlin, mars 2015)

imageThe Renaissance Society of America Annual Meeting, Berlin, March 26‐ 28, 2015 Organizers: Angela Benza, Jan Blanc, Bérangère Poulain, Marie Theres Stauffer

. . . → En lire plus
