PhD/Postdoc Fellowships, Dutch University Institute for Art History, Florence

Florence, Italy
Application deadline: Jun 1, 2021

The Dutch University Institute for Art History in Florence (www.niki-florence.org) promotes research on Italian art, on Dutch and Flemish art and artists in Italy, and on the artistic relations between Italy and the North. It provides university scholars and students in art history with accommodation (including an apartment for a scholar-in-residence), research and publication opportunities, and the use of the library and photo-archives.

For the academic year 2021/22 the Institute offers a limited number of fellowships for postdoctoral researchers or Ph.D. students. These fellowships consist of up to € 350 (€ 700 for those affiliated to non-European universities) to cover travel expenses to the Institute plus free accommodation at the Institute and a place to study in the library for a maximum period of 3 months. Other solutions are possible depending on the necessity of a stay in Florence.
The topic of the project should fall within the three main research areas promoted by the Institute. Fellows are supposed to devote themselves full time to their research project and to have no other obligations during the duration of the fellowship. At the end of their stay, fellows are to give a talk at the institute to present their findings.

Applications should contain:
1. Curriculum vitae
2. A description of the proposed research project that includes the present status quo in research; an explanation of what the project is going to contribute; the structure, phases, and duration of the project; the reasons why study in Florence would be useful or necessary; the material that will be studied there and the institutions that will be frequented; proposed dates of stay in Florence.

Two letters of recommendation by art historians of academic standing who are familiar with the candidate’s work should be mailed by the authors.
