Appel à candidature : Terra Foundation for American Art Research Travel Grants 2011

The Terra Foundation for American Art is offering, in partnership with the Institut national d’histoire de l’art, the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, Paris, the John F. Kennedy Institut für Nordamerikastudien, Freie Universität, Berlin, and the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich, six travel grants for researchers whose research project concerns American art or transatlantic artistic relations prior to 1980. Nationals of all European countries can apply for these grants according to their level of study.

• Three grants of US$5,000 each will be offered to researchers at doctoral level.
• Three grants of US$7,500 each will be offered to postdoctoral researchers who have been awarded their doctorate within the past ten years.

Applications must be received by one of the partnering institutions :
Courtauld Institute of Art, London (www.courtauld.ac.uk) ; Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art, Paris (www.inha.fr) ; John F. Kennedy Institut für Nordamerikastudien, Freie Universität Berlin (www.jfki.fu-berlin.de) ; or Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich (www.zikg.eu) and must include :
• An official Terra Foundation Travel Grant application form*
• The applicant’s curriculum vitae
• A description of the applicant’s research project demonstrating the need for a sojourn in the United States of America
• Two letters of recommendation. (For doctoral candidates, one of these letters should be by the dissertation advisor.)

All documents must be written in English.

Pre-selection of candidates will be undertaken by each of the four institutions named above and will be followed by a final selection in March 2011 by a five-member international jury. Selection results will be published in April 2011.
