Bramantino and the French Rule in Renaissance Lombardy (1499-1522) Lugano, 6-7 November 2014

From 28 September 2014 to 11 January 2015 the Museo Cantonale d’Arte in Lugano will host a major exhibition consecrated to Bartolomeo Suardi, known as Bramantino.The exhibition will trace the artist’s entire cultural and expressive itinerary, from the onset of his career to his very last works. Works of Bramantino will be shown alongside paintings, drawings, illuminated manuscripts, sculptures and goldsmith’s art which represent, in a tightly-knit web of exchanges and interferences, the most important Lombard figurative tendencies within the frame of the Italian Wars and the French rule of Lombardy (1499-1525).
Since the exhibition will constitute an important opportunity to re-examine the works of Bramantino and of his contemporaries, the Museo Cantonale d’Arte promotes a two-day symposium to present and discuss the most recent studies of the researchers active in this field. The symposium will take place in Lugano from the 6th to the 7th of November 2014.
The symposium aims at bringing together art historical presentations as well as technical and scientific investigations reports on specific works. The proceedings of the symposium will then be published in a volume of the series Biblioteca d’Arte Skira.

Dal 28 settembre 2014 all’11 gennaio 2015 il Museo Cantonale d’Arte di Lugano presenterà un’importante esposizione dedicata alla figura di Bartolomeo Suardi, detto il Bramantino.La mostra intende ripercorrere l’itinerario culturale ed espressivo dell’artista, dagli esordi fino alle ultime opere. L’opera di Bramantino sarà messa a confronto con dipinti, disegni, miniature, sculture e oreficerie che consentiranno di evocare alcune delle tendenze della cultura figurativa lombarda negli anni delle guerre d’Italia e dell’occupazione francese (1499-1525).
In concomitanza con l’evento espositivo, importante occasione per riesaminare l’opera di Bramantino e degli artisti a lui contemporanei attivi in Lombardia, il Museo Cantonale d’Arte ha deciso di promuovere due giornate di studi che si terranno a Lugano il 6 e 7 novembre 2014, in cui potranno essere presentati i nuovi risultati relativi a questo ambito di ricerca.
Il convegno desidera offrire spazio a interventi storico artistici e a indagini tecniche e scientifiche condotte sulle opere. Al fine di garantire la diffusione degli interventi presentati nel corso delle due giornate, è prevista la pubblicazione degli atti del convegno in un volume della collana Biblioteca d’Arte Skira.
Chiunque sia interessato a partecipare al convegno con una propria relazione può inviare un abstract della lunghezza massima di una cartella (2000 battute) per un intervento di massimo 15-20 minuti.
