Gothic Color (Barcelona, 6-8 May 25)

Barcelona, May 6–08, 2025
Deadline: Mar 28, 2025

From May 6 to May 8, 2025, the III International Seminar GOTHIC COLOR will take place at the University of Barcelona (Faculty of Geography and History) and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.

The third edition of the International Seminar GOTHIC COLOR, directed by Rosa Alcoy, will be dedicated to the memory of Professor Alessio Monciatti, a distinguished Art History scholar who passed away shortly after participating in the II COLOR GOTHIC Seminar in April 2023. This gathering aims to delve into the connections and exchanges among the arts of the Gothic period, produced both in Catalonia and across European territories.

Exploring the links between artistic expressions will allow for a deeper and broader understanding of their unique creative and imaginative dimensions, approached from a renewed and open perspective. The values of creativity, which have been essential in defining the arts of color during this period, will be one of the focal points of exploration. The seminar will also consider various forms of dialogue, embracing all artistic disciplines. In homage to one of Professor Monciatti’s fundamental research areas, the event will also integrate connections between the visual arts and the literary world.

The seminar will feature three sessions, including keynote lectures, paper presentations, and discussions focusing on theoretical and applied aspects grounded in specific case studies presented by the speakers:
– Gothic Color as an Interdisciplinary Metaphor: Transitions and connections among artistic disciplines such as painting, sculpture, architecture, goldsmithing and object arts, stained glass, embroidery, tapestry, and enamelwork.
– Relationships with Other Disciplines: Influences and echoes in the realms of music and literature.
