Professor Martin Warnke Program, Madrid, Museo del Prado

The research stays named after the distinguished art historian Martin Warnke (1937-2019), a scholar of the work of authors as present in the Prado collections as Rubens, Velázquez and Goya, have been instituted by the Museo Nacional del Prado in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Madrid to facilitate short study stays for academics and researchers with habitual residence in a country of the European Union.

Characteristics:
– The program provides for the stay of one researcher for four consecutive weeks.
– The period of stay is from September 1 to 30. Exceptionally, a different time frame may be considered, within the autumn quarter of 2025, which must be mentioned in the application for consideration by the Selection Committee.
– Selected researcher will be provided with a workspace in the Centro de Estudios del Museo del Prado, special facilities for extended use of the Library, Archives and Documentation, access to databases and to those management and documentation systems on the Museo del Prado collection that are expressly authorized for the purpose of carrying out his/her studies, direct contact with the Museum’s academic community, and access to the Prado Campus.

During the month of stay, the selected researcher will be able to stay free of charge in an apartment provided by the Goethe-Institut in Madrid, where he/she will also have access to a classroom, should he/she need additional space to work.

Deadline and application:
– The application period will be open from February 1 to April 30, 2025.
– Applications must be made using the on-line application form available on the website https://www.museodelprado.es/recurso/programa-profesor-martin-warnke-2025/3019a64f-e279-41df-a370-e54188f327a4.
– To complete the form, it is necessary to attach a copy of the identity document (ID card or passport), the doctoral degree or certificate of enrollment in a doctoral program, an abbreviated CV and a summary of the research project with a limit of 400 words.
– Only applications that include the documentation requested in the application form will be considered.
– The response to the applications will be communicated during the month of May.

Eligible applications:
– Researchers who are currently working on their doctoral thesis or are already in possession of a doctoral degree are eligible to apply.

– Research in the field of Art History or related disciplines whose study projects are related to the collections of the Museo del Prado or deal with topics linked in some way to them will be considered.
– Those who have already enjoyed the same stay are allowed to apply for the same stay.
– To apply for the stay it is essential to have habitual residence in a country of the European Union.
Other requirements
– The languages accepted for the presentation of applications are: Spanish, English and German.
– The selected researcher must have health, accident and civil liability insurance for the duration of the stay.
