Appel à publication : « Places of Memory. Cemeteries and Funerary Practices throughout the Time », Annales Universitatis Apulensis Series Historica, n°2 (2015)

The scientific journal Annales Universitatis Apulensis Series Historica announces the call for papers for the 2nd issue of this year with the following subject:

Places of Memory. Cemeteries and Funerary Practices throughout the Time

Editors: Daniel Dumitran and Marius Rotar.

Possible Topics:

Defining the place: birth and development of cemeteries; churchyards; ossuaries; cimiterial chapels; monumental and new cemeteries; crematoria; cemetery as cultural landscape; cemetery as story(ies).

The funerary practices: inhumation; reuse of graves; cremation (including debates); disposal of the body; others.

Keeping of memory: text and image on gravestones; gravestones and family vaults as expressions of social status; collective and personal memory; elements of religious/denominational identities.

Research methods and preservation: state of art of recording and investigation; state of preservation; measured survey applied to cemeteries; management of historic cemeteries.

We accept papers framed in the following fields: history, art history, history of religion, archaeology, but also in other fields of humanities and social sciences (in relation with the proposed topics).

Deadlines:
June 30^th, 2015 (for title, up to 100 words abstract, and a short biographical note);
October 1^st , 2015 (for the final paper)
