The Department of Modern Languages at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette
(French and Francophone studies) invites submissions for its first annual graduate student colloquium.
In light of the current sociopolitical uncertainties we face, and – as some argue (Polony, essayist; Fromentin, politician) – the lack of ideals/objectives that contributes to pessimism, nostalgia, and violence, this colloquium seeks to investigate the notion of “visions” (perceptions, perspectives, visual representations, seeing, etc.) to understand how French/Francophone authors address these issues/topics. Contributions can address any century, any locale of the francophonie.

Possible topics can include (though not limited to):

Representing ideologies
The migrant crisis: what future?
Perceptions and perspectives
Visions of/and politics
Visual arts
Visions of violence/horror
No future
Queer history, futurity, visions, etc.
Envisioning love and friendship
Visions of sex
Tomorrow’s society?
Utopia/Dystopia

Please submit abstracts of 250 words (with an addition 50-word bio) to loic.bourdeau@louisiana.edu by January 15, 2017.

Selected presenters will be notified shortly after. Papers can be either in French or English. There will be a keynote presentation (TBD) and prizes (money) for the best presentations selected after the conference by ULL Faculty.
