Appel à candidature : Funded PhD Positions, « The Photographic Dispositif (Braunschweig University of the Arts)

Braunschweig University of the Arts, Germany, is pleased to announce the following positions

12 fully funded PhD positions
8 non-funded associated PhD positions

in the new PhD Program The Photographic Dispositif (GRK1843), made possible by the financial support of the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The starting date of the program is October 1, 2013. A stipend of 1.200 Euro monthly plus the cost of materials will be provided to the fully funded positions for up to three years. Associates do not receive individual funding, but will be given the opportunity to participate in the research program in Braunschweig free of charge.

The Photographic Dispositif addresses the photographic process as a complex act that is based on specific historical, medial, technological, social, cultural, and aesthetic conditions, including the potential to disturb and modify these very conditions. We welcome PhD projects related to the formation, handling, perception, and exhibition of photography alongside its discourses, as well as projects that scrutinize the specific power of the image and the gaze as an effective means of discipline and/or as creative potential.
Braunschweig University of the Arts’ interdisciplinary exchange between Art and Media Studies, Fine Arts and Design, in connection with the collections and museums in its vicinity, offers the perfect context for a wide range of PhD projects about the history, theory and practices of the photographic act.

 

  • Applications should include proof of the applicant’s academic qualifications (a copy of the applicant’s Master’s Degree etc.)
  • five page abstract explaining the PhD project’s affinity to the topic of the Graduate Research Program
  • curriculum vitae including an additional statement about the candidate’s broader academic and/or social interests and activities

Students who receive funding are expected to complete their PhD (Dr. phil.) at the Braunschweig University of the Arts. Financial, administrative and organizational assistance is offered to all participating students with children.
