Appel à candidature Le musée d’Orsay décerne un prix permettant la publication d’une thèse d’histoire de l’art portant sur la période allant de 1848 à 1914.
Attribution Le prix est attribué par un jury de cinq membres – universitaires et conservateurs – à une thèse soutenue à l’université, à l’EPHE ou à l’EHESS, à l’École des Chartes, ou à un mémoire de troisième cycle de l’École du Louvre. La thèse sera présentée telle que soutenue, accompagnée du rapport du jury, du résumé rédigé au moment du dépôt, d’une liste des publications de l’auteur et d’une note de ce dernier indiquant la manière dont le manuscrit serait remanié en vue de la publication.

 Pour son sixième numéro, la revue en ligne à comité de lecture Le Verger propose d’engager une réflexion sur « la fête à la Renaissance ».

Figures du travail
Depuis deux siècles, le travail est devenu une composante fondamentale de la société. Cette valeur est à l’origine de bien des romans ou de films célèbres, mais semble avoir été moins illustrée dans les arts visuels. Pourtant, des représentations de la forge de Vulcain au Quarto Stato de Pelliza da Volpedo ou au Grand Paysan de Dalou, nombreuses sont les figures du travail dans les arts plastiques. 50° nord revue d’art contemporain propose une plate-forme d’expression au monde de l’art en fournissant un discours sur les œuvres et leurs différentes médiations, afin de présenter une vision à la fois rétrospective et prospective de l’art contemporain en eurorégion Nord (Région Nord-Pas de Calais, Belgique et sud de l’Angleterre).

 Tuscan Painting in the Eighteenth Century
The Predella issue scheduled for June 2014 (no. 35) will be dedicated to Tuscan painting in the Eighteenth Century. It will be edited by Emanuele Pellegrini and Stefano Renzoni. This issue aims to bring new contributions on the activity of Tuscan painters in their homeland and abroad, and at the same time to shed light on foreign painters active in Tuscany throughout the Settecento. Furthermore, this Predella monograph intends to offer new evidences on less studied topics, both individual artists (like Luigi Garzi, Vincenzo Meucci, Giovanni Battista Tempesti), and general problems (the relationships of Tuscan artists with other capital cities like Rome or Venice, the diffusion of « popular painting »).

Collecting books had many facets in the Renaissance: paintings, sculpture, gems and antiques were just a few ways of expressing one’s dedication. Books were collected by different social groups, by the humanists for their private studies, by personalities from society, politics or wealthy merchants, to gain some education or to show off their – sometimes pretended – erudition. But private collecting could also be part of a dedication to rare texts, foreign languages or precious manuscript illumination.
Collecting books, of course, could mean both, manuscripts as well as printed works, but often the motivation for each was different. Manuscripts are unique by nature. This is an open call for submissions for an edited volume on the artist-as-curator for an academic press in the UK. The editor seeks submissions that theorize and/or historicize the breakdown of traditional boundaries separating the practices of artistic creation and curation.
 The volume will survey artist-curator activities thematically, geographically, and through in-depth treatments of key figures and events. A Cultural History of Emotions in the Middle Ages: Contributor Sought

 Having long played an essential role in the development of art, media and culture, recycling has emerged also as a field of theoretical explorations. The idea of recycling is understood here in a wider sense, as a production means and critical thinking tool, as an instrument for approaching and reclaiming—equally with deference and irreverence—the established cultural models.
Adaptation, remix, manipulation, remediation, quotation, serialism, appropriationism, simulations, mash-up, cut-and-paste, or simply copy-paste are different manifestations of the same idea of recycling and are all part of what was called the “Re- culture”.
