L’impact de la recherche scientifique sur la société est progressivement devenu, ces dernières années, un critère important d’évaluation de la carrière des chercheurs, formalisé par exemple dans le Research Excellence Framework mis en place au Royaume-Uni.
Dans un contexte de concurrence accrue entre individus et institutions, les chercheurs ont par ailleurs activement investi les réseaux sociaux, spécialisés ou à destination du grand public. De nouvelles métriques de la recherche, conçues pour compléter les indicateurs bibliométriques traditionnels, se mettent en place pour quantifier les résultats de ces nouveaux supports de la communication et de la publication scientifiques. Ce nouveau colloque tente de « dessiner une coupe » plutôt que de faire un bilan des expositions dans les musées de la Ville de Paris où elles ont souvent joué un rôle moteur, dans un rapport d’émulation, voire de compétition, avec les grands musées de l’État, face auxquels, ceux de la Ville affirmaient leur vitalité et des partis-pris autres.
Le colloque sera organisé selon quatre thématiques réparties sur autant de demi-journées :

 La mise en ligne du Dictionnaire des élèves architectes de l’École des beaux-arts (1800-1968) est achevée.
Basé sur le dépouillement exhaustif des neuf registres matricules qui dressent la liste des élèves admis dans la section d’architecture de l’École des beaux-arts, promotion après promotion et dans l’ordre de leur classement, le Dictionnaire recense exactement 18 156 noms.
Ce chiffre comprend en sus quelques dizaines élèves entrés à l’École par équivalence, entre l’Occupation et 1968, et qui, bien qu’ayant échappé à l’attention du secrétariat, y ont suivi une scolarité, parfois jusqu’au diplôme.
