Critical Theory and the Arts at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan would like to receive CV’s from qualified candidates interested in possible adjunct graduate-level teaching in
1.) Aesthetics. Able to present the development, fundamental ideas and conflicts in the history of aesthetics. Familiarity with artist writings; concern with the contemporary situation in the arts; interest in anthropology also welcome. Broad interests; anti-ideological; open minded.
2.) A sociologist deeply familiar with social theory and contemporary reality interested in helping students cultivate something of the critical powers of observation as they combine with an acute aesthetic dimension as found, e.g., in Canetti, Simmel, Kraucauer, Harry Kessler, Goffman. Again, interest in anthropology welcome. No openings right this moment, but they do happen. PhD preferred.
