Appel à publication : « Urban exile: theories, methods, research practices » (15 juillet 2020)
Although it is widely accepted that migration shapes cities, until now, exile research has rarely been written from an urban perspective. By taking up this challenge, this publication will make a significant contribution to the theory and methodology of research on exile, cities and modernities. It will focus on historical dislocations in the first half of the 20th century, when modern movements constituted themselves in global exchange. In cities around the world migration contributed significantly to the transformation of urban spaces by forming new communities, neighbourhoods and artists’ quarters.
. . → En lire plus

Architectures of Order Fellowship Program
The LOEWE Research Cluster Architectures of Order is an interdisciplinary research project (2020-2023) of the Goethe University Frankfurt and Technical University of Darmstadt, with the Max-Planck-Institute for European Legal History and the Deutsche Architekturmuseum as associated partners. Comprising 26 members, the project is concerned with an investigation of architecture as a cultural practice of ordering, that manifests aesthetically, materially, spatially, discursively as well as epistemologically. Hence, the project is as much interested in the influence that architecture exercises on societal, cultural, scientific and technological practices of ordering as it is in how architectural practices of ordering are shaped by society, culture and science. . . . → En lire plus

coldWARchitectures
International Symposium, University of Stuttgart, October 29-30, 2020 Deadline: Apr 30, 2020
Shortly after WW II George Orwell criticized the complete change of world order after the atomic destruction of Hiroshima and spoke of a cold war between the USA and the Soviet Union. Since then a vast majority of historical accounts considers the year 1945 the most important break, which is of course also true for post-war-architectural history. Nonetheless, its political interests in planning and in (re-) building was rather on local and symbolic towns and projects, such as Berlin and Vienna, or on outstanding iconic cases.

New cities in the Mediterranean of the 19th and 20th centuries (Florence, 2-3 Jul 20)
The experience of « new cities » and new settlements occupies a prominent place in urban history between the 19th and 20th centuries. Work undertaken in recent years has sought to explain how projects undertaken since the beginning of the 20th century have ended up setting up important multidisciplinary research laboratories in most sectors related to urban planning: from urban planning to architectural design, from new dwelling modes to the creation of public spaces, including the use of water in cities, integrated facilities and transitional housing – but also . . .

. . → En lire plus
