The Association for Art History’s Annual Conference brings together international research and critical debate about art history and visual culture. A key annual event, the conference is an opportunity to keep up to date with new research, hear leading keynotes, broaden networks and exchange ideas.
The Annual Conference attracts around 400 attendees each year and is popular with academics, curators, practitioners, PhD students, early career researchers and anyone engaged with art history research. Members of the Association get reduced conference rates, but non-members are welcome to attend and propose sessions and papers. Convenors are limited to convening one session.

 La bourse Focillon est une bourse d’étude créée au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, pour instituer des liens entre la France et les États-Unis. Elle porte le nom du grand historien de l’art Henri Focillon (Dijon, 1881-New Haven (Yale) 1943), directeur du musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, professeur à la Sorbonne, et dans différentes universités américaines à partir de 1932. Financée à son origine par le ministère des Affaires étrangères, elle est portée depuis 2010 par le ministère de la Culture, précisément par la délégation à l’inspection, la recherche et l’innovation (DIRI), au sein de la Direction générale des patrimoines et de l’architecture. Elle est placée sous l’égide du Comité français d’histoire de l’art.

 Plaster casts molded from artworks are ubiquitous in museum and university collections. In the art history department at the university of Vienna, for instance, a small vitrine surrounded by plants displays old plaster casts of medieval ivories. The installation functions simultaneously as an educational tool from the past, an archive of the department history, and a decorative ensemble. The German anthropologist Leo Frobenius had multiple plaster casts made of several terracottas he excavated in 1910 in Ife, Nigeria, marked them with his name and donated them to European ethnographic museums. The work of the art historian revolves around the art object, and the need to tailor one’s methodology to that object gives the discipline its variety and richness.
