This fellowship offers support for a postdoctoral and senior scholar to conduct research on American art and visual culture (not including architecture) prior to 1980 while in residence at the American Academy in Rome for a period of four to six months. During that time, the fellowship recipient will pursue their work in an atmosphere conducive to intellectual and artistic freedom, interdisciplinary exchange, and innovation.  L’Institut national d’histoire de l’art s’associe avec la Terra Foundation for American Art pour attribuer une bourse postdoctorale qui s’accompagne d’un accueil d’un an à l’INHA et d’une bourse de voyage.
Le lauréat aura pour mission de produire une recherche inédite sur l’art américain avant 1980 donnant lieu à la publication d’un article dans l’année suivant le terme de la bourse (les missions de la Terra n’incluent pas les questions architecturales). Dans le cadre du voyage d’études effectué par le lauréat, l’INHA veillera à promouvoir la diffusion de la recherche du lauréat aux États-Unis.
