 CAA-GETTY INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM The CAA-Getty International Program, generously supported by the Getty Foundation, provides funding to between fifteen and twenty art historians, museum curators, and artists who teach art history to attend CAA’s Annual Conferences. The goal of the project is to increase international participation in CAA, to diversify the association’s membership, and to foster collaborations between North American art historians, artists, and curators and their international colleagues.
Since it began in 2012, the program has brought ninety scholars to the conferences, from forty-one countries located in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and South America. When talking about transnational inspirations for arts and culture in southern Germany, Italy is often named as the first reference. For many centuries, however, there have been various connections with the Netherlands and Flanders, which equally effected the arts and sciences south of the line of the Main river.
In the Middle Ages, dynastic contacts especially furthered the exchange. Between 1353 and 1429 the duchy of Straubing-Holland created a direct political link between the house of Wittelsbach and the Netherlands, which benefitted the mobility of artists and artisans between the two remote territories. UC Ber keley Launches pieterbruegel.net, a Scholarly Research Site
Elizabeth Honig and a team of UC Berkeley researchers announced the launch of pieterbruegel.net, a new scholarly research site dedicated to Jan Brueghel’s famous father, Pieter Bruegel. After the success of our first site, janbrueghel.net, we are proud to present the next step in our efforts to digitally catalogue the Brueg(h)el family of artists.
Pieterbruegel.net builds off of its predecessor, janbrueghel.net, in style and function. Scholars can access all of the, drawings, prints, and paintings that Pieter produced. Individual pages within the site document each object’s physical data, provenance, and bibliography. The research will take place in the context of the interdisciplinary digital humanities project ArchiMediaL, focused on enriching and linking historical architectural and urban image collections. The post-doctoral researcher in architectural and urban history will collaborate closely with members of the Chair of History of Architecture and Urban Planning at the TU Delft and with computer scientists researching Deep Learning for Image Analysis (TU Delft) and Semantic Web and Knowledge Representation (VU Amsterdam).

 The use of graphic satire proliferated in the eighteenth century, from the caricature and portrait charges of the Grand Tour (Pier Leoni Ghezzi, Thomas Patch, François-André Vincent), to political caricature on the continent and in England, to the verbal-visual puns of broadside imagery and street cries series, to the complex allegories that criticized and supported the French Revolution. These different genres of graphic satire are difficult to reconcile because they vary widely in tone: some are oppositional, others are sociable, and others still seemed destined primarily for entertainment.

50° nord revue d’art contemporain propose une plate-forme d’expression au monde de l’art en fournissant un discours sur les œuvres et leurs différentes médiations, afin de présenter une vision à la fois rétrospective et prospective de l’art contemporain en eurorégion Nord (Région Nord-Pas de Calais, Belgique et sud de l’Angleterre).

In March 2014, Rome will host the final conference of ENBaCH (European Network for Baroque Cultural Heritage), a project which kicked off in June 2009 and will end in May 2014.
